The knowledge base article detailing how to install Kiln mentions that if you want Kiln and Fogbugz to communicate, they must be on the same server.

There are two questions then:

  1. Is that information still accurate? Some of the language mentions "once the beta has closed".
  2. Is it possible to host our Mercurial repos on our internal network, yet have Kiln installed on the remote server where Fogbugz is installed? The article implies yes, but is there any information on how to actually accomplish this?

The corporate policies at my place of employment dictate that all source code must be stored on premises.

Thanks!

Kiln is a complex product. It requires several administration disciplines. For the best experience with Kiln in use, in upgrades, and performance, we do not support installing the Mercurial repositories and Kiln Storage Service on separate servers than the Kiln website.

If you have any questions about this, please contact us.

And is it possible to host the Kiln Storage Service on a linux server? – Rodrigue Oct 13 2010 at 13:53
That's not currently possible. It'd be feasible, in the sense that we actually run Kiln On Demand's Storage Service on FreeBSD, but we don't ship the Storage Service in that configuration, and don't currently have any plans to do so. – Benjamin Pollack Oct 13 2010 at 17:53
