I just noticed that Kiln 2.5.166 got released. What's new? And when can I get it for on-site installation?

Kiln 2.5.166 is a fairly large release. Here's what we've got ready for you guys:

  • Both Kiln and its client tools have been fully updated to Mercurial 1.9, speeding up push times and providing many new features. For maximum speed-up, consider setting usehttp2=1 in the [ui] section of your Mercurial.ini/.hgrc.
  • The Kiln BFiles plugin has received many improvements and bug fixes.
  • Code reviews show users' profile pictures, making it easier to see who said what
  • Changesets now show visual diffs when images were changed
  • The file browser allows showing a preview of image data
  • A new feature, Access Tokens, allows continuous integration systems to work with Kiln without using up a Kiln or FogBugz account. Expect a blog post on how it works soon.
  • A new permission level, Read + Branch, allows developers the ability to read central repositories and create branch repositories, but not to push to central repositories. We'll also have some documentation discussing what that is, and how to use it.
  • RSS feeds have greater flexibility: they can now show diffs inline, or optionally show pushes rather than individual changesets.
  • Code searches can now be limited to a project, repository, filename/glob/regex.
  • A bug with Kiln caching that could result in a sticky notifications icon for administrators, or in users failing to show up in permissions tables, has been fixed.
  • And, per usual, we've landed a bunch of performance enhancements to Kiln throughout the application.

But wait! I hear some of you ask. I have a licensed install! When do I get this?

Probably later this week. Kiln 2.5 has a number of major architectural changes compared to Kiln 2.4 that basically required us to rewrite the installer. We were hoping that the installer would be ready by today, but it isn't; we're still seeing some bad behavior on some combinations of Windows, IIS, and databases. But we're very close. Literally the moment that we squash these last couple bugs, we'll be releasing Kiln 2.5 to licensed customers. That will hopefully be later this week, but it might bleed into early next week.

Awesome news, looking forward to the 2.5 local install :) – Bjorn Isaksen Jul 26 2011 at 20:25
Seems to be 2.5.163 now... :-) – Roddy Jul 27 2011 at 15:11
Actually up to 2.5.166. There are no major differences between the above and 166; the changes have to do with fixes to a slightly bad branch + read upgrade process. Please check the status blog for details. – Benjamin Pollack Jul 27 2011 at 19:32
